Baptist scored a pair of unearned runs in the top of the eighth inning to
squeak past ULM
2-1 Tuesday night at Warhawk Field.
The Patriots (21-9) first run of the inning came on an error
by ULM (20-10)
third baseman Ryan McMillan allowing Ryan Enos to score from second after he
doubled. Ryan Goins put the second run
on the board taking the first pitch he saw off reliever Jordy Poche to center
field scoring Evan Bigley, who reached on the error.
The Warhawks got an outstanding pitching performance from
Kyle Smith (0-1) who went 7.2 innings allowing a pair of unearned runs on seven
hits. The senior, who had thrown just 6.1
innings on the season, struck out five and walked just one.
Chris Haney (4-2) picked up the win for Dallas Baptist tossing the final three innings not allowing a run scattering a pair of
hits. Victor Black started the game for
the Patriots going six innings allowing one run on three hits. He struck out six and walked four.
Matt Collins gave the Warhawks a 1-0 lead in the bottom of
the fourth inning with a single to left field scoring Ben Soignier who led off
the inning with a single.
The Warhawks mounted a rally in the bottom of the ninth
inning with runners on first and second with nobody out, but a failed bunt
attempt, a strikeout and a fielder's choice ended the game. Tyson Bagley recorded the final two outs for
the Patriots picking up his eighth save of the year.
The teams wrap up the midweek set tomorrow afternoon with a
3:00 p.m. matin?e.
