Alabama rallied from a seven run deficit to win a wild game 16-13 over ULM Saturday afternoon at
Stanky Field to even up the Sun Belt Conference series at a game apiece.
The Warhawks (31-16, 19-7 Sun Belt) jumped out to a 7-0 lead
after the first two innings and led 11-6 after the top of the fifth, but
South Alabama (27-20, 12-11) scored 10 runs in their final three at-bats of the
game.
After ULM
scored a pair of runs in the top of the eighth inning tying the game at 13-13,
the Jaguars scored three in the bottom half ? all unearned ? to secure the
victory.
The first two runners of the South Alabama eighth reached via a walk and a single to right field. Derek O'Reilly laid down a sacrifice bunt to
try and move the runners up a base, but Ben Soignier, who had taken over on the
mound, was wild with the throw allowing both runners to score. Chris Davis tacked on another run with a
sacrifice fly to center.
The Warhawks out-hit South Alabama
17-15 for the game led by a 4-for-4, 4-RBI outing by Nick Maragas, who doubled,
tripled and had a pair of singles.
Jon Prevost recorded three hits while Soignier, Dexter
Fontenot, Ryan McMillan and Nick Wade all had a pair of hits. Wade hit his fourth home run of the season
and second of the weekend in the fifth.
The Jaguars were led by Ryne Jernigan's 3-for-4 night and
Ray Krumi's 3-for-5, 6-RBI performance.
ULM chased South
Alabama starter Kevin Nabors after just two-thirds of an inning
tagging the right-hander for six runs on four hits. Greg Johnson (3-1) took the win allowing a
run on four hits over the final two innings.
Devin Pourciau (3-2) suffered the loss allowing a run and a
walk in one-third of an inning. Warhawk
starter Kyle Smith allowed six runs on seven hits in four innings.
The teams play the rubber game of the series tomorrow afternoon
at 1:00 p.m.
