BOWLING GREEN, Ky.?After being
held scoreless over the first four innings, Western Kentucky exploded for 10
runs in the fifth and sixth innings en route to a 14-2 victory over ULM in Sun
Belt Conference action Saturday at Nick Denes Field.
The Hilltoppers (8-2, 2-0 Sun
Belt) started the scoring with four runs in the fifth and then plated six runs
in the sixth inning. Western Kentucky sent 19 batters to the plate during the
fourth and fifth innings and recorded 11 hits.
Neither team could crack the
scoreboard during the opening three innings of the ball game. ULM (6-4, 0-2) right
fielder Kelvin York started the scoring with his first career home run ? a solo
shot to left ? in the top of the fourth.
ULM starter Jordy Poche (0-1) suffered the loss allowing four runs
on four hits over four innings.Warhawk pitchers struggled with their control all afternoon issuing three free passes and hitting five WKU batters.
Matt Hightower (2-0) picked up
the win for the Hilltoppers allowing one run on five hits over 5.2 innings of
work.
Jon Prevost and Ryan McMillan each recorded a pair of hits for the Warhawks, while
WKU had seven players with multiple hits.
The series wraps up tomorrow
