TROY, Ala. – Junior forward Lawrence Gilbert led four Warhawks in double-figures with 13 points, but it wasn't enough as the ULM men's basketball team fell, 75-56, on Thursday night (Jan. 28) at Troy.

Senior guard Dynile Forbes added 11 points and junior forwards Rudy Turner and Tommie Sykes each had 10. Turner also had 11 rebounds to record his second double-double of the season.

Leading by 10 at the intermission, Troy quickly doubled that advantage in the first three minutes of the second half and never looked back. Troy finished the contest 11-of-19 (48.0 percent) from three-point range. Overall, Troy was 52.7 percent (29-of-55) from the floor while ULM went 32.8 percent (19-of-58).

Troy opened up a slim four-point lead, 13-9, seven minutes into the contest courtesy of five-straight points from Levan Patsatsia. ULM pulled back even, 17-17, on back-to-back put-backs by Turner. But the Trojans quickly answered with the next five to hold a 22-17 advantage halfway through the opening stanza.

After Sykes pulled ULM back within a two from the free-throw line, Troy knocked down a trio of triples to take its largest lead of the half, 34-23, with 4:36 to play before the intermission. Gilbert scored the next five on a pair of free throws and a three-pointer, but Troy pushed its lead back out to double-digits, 41-31, at the half.

Turner led ULM with eight points and seven rebounds at the break, Yamene Coleman and Patsatsia each had eight points to lead the Trojans.

Troy shot 56.7 percent (17-of-30) in the opening half, including 7-of-12 (58.3 percent) from beyond the three-point line. The Warhawks meanwhile went 11-of-27 (40.7 percent) from the floor before the break, but just 2-of-9 (22.2 percent) from three-point range.

Troy scored the first six seven points out of the locker room to take a 48-31 lead, forcing a ULM timeout. The Trojans run continued with another triple following the timeout, pushing the Troy lead to 20.

Forbes ignited an 11-0 burst for ULM with a triple as the Warhawks cut the Troy lead to 10, 56-46, with just under 12 minutes to play. Gilbert and senior guard Kenneth Averette followed with triples of their own before Sykes capped the run with a layup.

A basket by freshman guard Colby Carr cut the Trojans lead to just nine, but Troy used an 8-2 run to increase its lead back to 15, 66-51, with eight minutes to play and the Trojans saw the contest out from there.

Vernon Taylor led Troy with 14 points

The Warhawks will return to Monroe on Saturday (Jan. 30) when they host Louisiana-Lafayette at 4:30 p.m. The contest will be the second half of a doubleheader as the ULM women will take on Louisiana-Lafayette at 2 p.m.
