MONROE,
La.-Freshman Judd
Edwards drove a 1-0 offering from Ryan Bernal back up the middle with
runners
on the corners in the bottom of the ninth inning to rally ULM past
Florida
Atlantic 6-5 in game two of a doubleheader at Warhawk Field on Saturday.
Edwards tied the game in the bottom of the seventh inning with a two-out
single
up the middle.
Florida Atlantic
(24-15, 13-7
Sun Belt) took a 5-4 lead with three runs in the top of the seventh
inning
before the Warhawks stormed back to even the three-game Sun Belt series
at one
game each. Boomer Blanchard and Nick Wade drew two-out walks in the
seventh to
set up Edwards' game-tying hit.
In the ninth, Caleb
Clowers
reached on a fielding error by second baseman Raymond Church to lead off
the
inning. Blanchard drew a five-pitch walk and Wade lined out to
right-center
field which allowed Clowers to move up to third base with Edwards coming
to the
plate.
Wil Browning (2-1)
tossed the
final three innings of the game for the Warhawks (15-23, 5-12) allowing
just
one run on four hits to pick up the victory after throwing 17 pitches in
the first game of the twin bill.
Clowers, Edwards
and Jarrett
Hammond all had two hits and two RBIs for ULM. Hammond put the Warhawks
on the
board with a home run to lead off the fifth inning. It was his second
home run
of the season and the first in 30 games for the Warhawk catcher.
The blast sparked a
three-run
frame for ULM. Following a strikeout, Shane Ardoin tripled into the
right-center field gap and Clowers hammered his fourth home run of the
season
out to right field.
The teams swapped
runs in the
sixth as Joey Burkhalter had a sacrifice fly for the Owls and Hammond
had an
RBI single for the Warhawks.
In Florida
Atlantic's
three-run seventh, Andy Mee had a two-run double and Dan Scheffler had a
sacrifice
fly. The Owls got on the board first with a sac fly off the bat of
Nathan
Pittman in the second.
Bernal (4-1) took
the loss for
Florida Atlantic after picking up the win in the opener of the
doubleheader. He
allowed one unearned run on two hits in 1 2/3 innings of work in relief
of Mike
Gipson.
The teams will play
the rubber
game of the series Sunday at 10 a.m. It will be Cane's Challenge Day and
Kids Day at Warhawk Field. All children 12 and under will be admitted
free and if the Warhawks score at least three runs fans will receive a
valuable Raising Cane's coupon.
