MONROE, La. – Propelling the ULM basketball program's offensively,
Tylor Ongwae from the men's squad earned Warhawk Male of the Week, while
Jasmine Shaw from the women's team earned Warhawk Female of the Week, announced Tuesday.
Ongwae, who is averaging a team-high 21.3 points per game in conference play, has led the Warhawks in scoring in all three conference games. He started the weekend off with a 25 point, five rebound performance against UT Arlington and also recorded two blocks and a steal. His four three-pointers in the game marked a career-high.
The Eldoret, Kenya native paced ULM on Saturday with 12 points, including a couple more long-range baskets.
Ongwae has also left his mark defensively in three conference games with five blocks and 19 rebounds (6.3 rpg). He is averaging 38.0 minutes per game, the most of any student-athlete in the Sun Belt Conference.
Shaw was one of five Warhawks to average double-figures for the week as she helped ULM post a perfect 2-0 mark on the week. On Wednesday at UT Arlington Shaw scored 15 points and grabbed five rebounds as ULM led wire-to-wire in an 84-67 win over the Mavericks. Shaw shot 80.0% from the floor in the game including a 75.0% mark from downtown and a perfect 100% at the charity stripe. She also dished out two assists with one block and one steal in 29 minutes of action.
Three days later, Shaw again came up big for the Warhawks as she posted 14 points and eight rebounds in the team's 78-52 win over Texas State. Shaw was again perfect at the charity stripe and played 29 minutes in the Warhawks' second straight wire-to-wire victory.
For the week, Shaw averaged 14.5 points per game as she shot 52.9% from the floor and 50.0% from beyond the arc. She was also perfect at the line (8-for-8) and she finished the week averaging 6.5 rebounds per game.
The ULM basketball programs will be back in action on Thursday at Troy. The women are scheduled to tip at 5:15 p.m. with the men beginning 30 minutes after the conclusion of the women.
