MONROE, La. – Leading the way for their respective programs, Dusan Makevic from cross country was named Warhawk Male of the Week and Taylor Zaeske from volleyball earned Warhawk Female of the Week honors, announced Tuesday.
For the second consecutive meet, Makevic crossed the finish line as ULM's top scorer. His 8K time of 25:02.03 was good for third-place at the 40th annual Azalea City CC Classic on Friday evening at the Mobile County Fairgrounds. The Sabac, Serbia native also guided the Warhawks to a third-place team score.
Makevic, a sophomore, is the reigning Sun Belt Conference Co-Runner of the Week winner. He opened the season with a third-place showing at the Tulsa Hurricane Festival, beating out student-athletes from No. 4 Oklahoma State, No. 13 Arkansas and No. 18 Tulsa.
The cross country teams will be back in action on Saturday when they head to Ruston, La., for The Mook 5 competiton.
Zaeske, a newcomer, burst onto the scene this past week with three of her best performances to aid the ULM volleyball team to four wins in six matches, including three shutout victories.
The sophomore transfer from Milwaukee, Wis., finished the week with 55 kills on 143 swings (.210) for an average of 3.06 kills per set to pace the Warhawks. During those 18 sets, Zaeske topped double-digit kills three times to go with 33 digs, five blocks and three service aces.
During a shutout win over Alcorn State, Zaeske led all scorers with 15 kills on .429 hitting from the field, both career-high milestones. She and the Warhawks will return to the court Wednesday when they travel to UALR for the conference opener.
