MONROE, La. – Garrett Smith from the ULM football team and Hope Pawlik from the ULM volleyball squad were awarded Warhawk Male and Female of the Week honors, respectively, after their big weekends, announced Tuesday.
Smith made his first start on Saturday night at JPS Field at Malone Stadium and the redshirt-freshman did not disappoint as he helped lead ULM to a 47-0 win over Nicholls. In all, Smith engineered six scoring drives in the first half and he was under center for the first series of the second half before his night was complete.
He finished 26-of-33 for 370 yards with three touchdowns and zero interceptions against the Colonels. The Spring Branch, Texas, native also rushed five times for 46 yards and one touchdown. He finished with 416 yards of total offense, the 12th highest single-game total in program history.
In Saturday night's home opener, Smith completed six passes for 20 or more yards, including a pair of 40+ (48 yards, Marcus Green; 47 yards, Ajalen Holley). He also had a long run of 28 yards against the Colonels. Through his first two games of the season, Smith has completed 79.0 percent of his passes (49-62) for 576 yards and five touchdown passes. He also has rushed for 72 yards, giving him 648 yards of total offense.
Pawlik led the Warhawks offensively this past week with 57 kills (3.8 kills per set) complemented by a .281 attacking percentage. The Willis, Texas, native also recorded a third-most 34 digs (2.3 per set) in addition to six blocks.
Pawlik had the most kills for ULM in three of four matches during the 2-2 stretch, including a match-high 19, 20 and 10 versus Stephen F. Austin, Lamar and Southern respectively. The junior outside scored a ULM season-high 23.5 (19-3-1.5) points versus SFA and added 11 digs versus Southern for her first double-double of the season and second of her career.
It marked the second career Warhawk of the Week award for Pawlik after she previously won on Nov. 25, 2014.
