MONROE, La. – Michael Johnson from the ULM football program and Hope Pawlik from the volleyball squad earned Warhawk Male and Female of the Week honors, respectively, announced Tuesday.
Johnson, a junior from Maumelle, Ark., paced the attacking Warhawk defense on Saturday. Johnson finished Saturday's game with a career-best 13 total tackles (four solo, nine asst). He also finished with new career-bests in both tackles for loss (4.5) and sacks (2.0). In all, the ULM defense finished with 13 tackles for loss and three sacks – NMSU had allowed just five sacks all season (prior to Saturday vs. ULM).
Johnson also had one quarterback hurry in the second quarter that led to an incomplete pass on second goal and the ULM defense was able to hold NMSU to a field goal. His two sacks came in the fourth quarter (both on second down) and eventually led to Aggie drives stalling out. The two sacks by Johnson (and one by Lorenzo Jackson) were the first sacks made by a NMSU opponent since Oct. 18 (at Idaho).
In addition to his honor from the Sun Belt, Johnson was named the LSWA Defensive Player of the Week, College Sports Madness' Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week and Honorable Mention LB of the Week by College Football Performance.
Pawlik looked dominant leading the Warhawks attack in their final weekend of play. The sophomore outside hitter led the offense in both matches, amassing 34 kills (3.78 kills/set) to go with 21 digs and five blocks.
In four sets against South Alabama, Pawlik totaled 17 kills (4.25 kills/set), two assists and a service ace.
The Katy, Texas native propelled the Warhawks to a five-set battle against ULL, collecting 17 kills (3.40 kills/set), 13 digs and four blocks for her sixth double-double of the year.
Pawlik concludes her sophomore campaign leading the team in kills (325) and kills per set (2.75), while finishing second on the team with 48 blocks and fourth on the squad with 176 digs.
