MONROE, La. – Leading the way for their programs over the weekend, Hillary Kirwa from men's cross country and Marcela Araya from volleyball were named Warhawk Male and Female of the Week winners, respectively.
Kirwa scored as ULM's top finisher at the 2014 Sun Belt Conference Championships on Sunday. In his final cross country SBC meet, the senior scored a time of 26:05.5 which shattered his 2013 mark of 27:33.3.
The Eldoret, Kenya native placed 27th overall to lead ULM to an eighth-place finish. Next up, he and the Warhawks will prepare for the South Region Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., on Nov. 14.
It marked the third career Warhawk of the Week award for Kirwa and the sixth for Araya which included sand volleyball.
Araya tabbed 24 digs in only three sets this weekend for an average of 8.0 digs per set. The senior from Costa Rica is only 42 digs shy of her program record 549 digs in a season attained a year ago.
Araya's streak of 20 digs or more is at five-straight matches, a mark she has reached an astounding 15 times this season.
The Warhawks return to action Friday and Saturday on the road against Troy and Georgia State, respectively.
