MONROE, La. – Career-highs and big numbers earned Tyler Cain from ULM football Warhawk Male of the Week and Kaitlyn Shearer from volleyball Warhawk Female of the Week.
Warhawk running back Cain set a trio of career-highs in Saturday's road tilt at Kentucky. Against the Wildcats, the West Monroe, La., native returned a career-high six kickoffs and registered a personal best with 124 return yards. In addition to his return total of 124 yards, Cain tallied 23 rushing yards and 22 receiving yards for a new career-high of 169 all-purpose yards.
On the season, Cain has appeared in all six games including starts in each of the last two contests. He has amassed 153 rushing yards on 44 attempts and has 19 receptions for 119 yards. The junior has also returned 18 kickoffs for 407 yards for a total of 679 all-purpose yards at the mid-point of the 2014 season.
Cain and the rest of the Warhawk football team will be back in action on Oct. 25 when they host Texas State at 6 p.m. The contest between the Warhawks and the Bobcats will air on ESPN3.
Middle blocker Shearer stepped up in an enormous way late in a comeback victory over Troy on Friday to ensure the Warhawks their best season since 2011.
The sophomore collected three of her five total blocks in the final two sets of the win over the Trojans, registering seven kills on 14 swings for an efficient .429 attack percentage on the other side of the net.
Over the course of the week, Shearer played in all 11 sets and averaged a team-high 1.27 blocks per set with at least four stuffs a match. The Killeen, Texas product and the rest of the ULM squad will be back in action this weekend when they hit the road for games at Georgia Southern and Appalachian State.
