MONROE, La. – Leading their teams to big victories, Justin Manton from the ULM football program and Ines Fendt from women's golf were named Warhawk Male and Female of the Week, respectively.
Manton, a senior specialist, was solid in all three phases of the kicking game in Saturday's 22-20 win over Troy. He totaled 10 points, including the game-winning 29-yard field goal with 2:08 to play. Manton finished the game with career highs in both field goal makes (three) and attempts (three). He also hit one extra point in the contest.
The Prairieville, La., native punted six times against Troy and finished with a 48.3 average and a long of 56. He also had three punts downed inside the 10 yard line (two yard line, seven yard line, one yard line). Manton registered six kickoffs and finished with a 64.0 average and three touchbacks.
Manton's big performance also earned him National Specialist of the Week by College Football Performance Awards and Southern Pigskin SBC Special Teams Player of the Week.
On the golf course, Fendt's career performance in the 2014 Fred Marx Invitational was key for the Warhawks to bring home the team title for the second year in a row, beating second-place Sam Houston State by four strokes.
The St. Poelten, Austria native was ULM's top finisher in all three rounds of the tournament. After the shotgun start of two rounds on day one, Fendt's carded a 5-over par, carding a 73 in round one and a 76 in round two. The senior came into the final round tied for a second with a chance to claim her top career finish.
The senior's par of 72 in round three solidified her best career finished as she tied for second place.Fendt's final 56-hole total of 221 at the tournament also bested her previous career low 56-hole total by six strokes.
