Manton, McClendon Earn Warhawk of the Week Awards

Volleyball

MONROE, La. – Stellar performances over the weekend earned Justin Manton from football and Jennifer McClendon from volleyball Warhawk Male and Female of the Week, respectively, announced Tuesday.

For the third consecutive week, ULM specialist Manton connected on all three field goal attempts as he hit field goals of 31, 35 and 38 yards in Saturday's road game at Appalachian State. With his three field goal performance, Manton is now 14-of-16 on the season and has not missed a field goal since Oct. 11 (at Kentucky).

Manton also connected on two extra points against the Mountaineers for his fourth double-digit scoring game of the season. The senior from Prairieville, La., also punted five times on Saturday for 212 yards (42.4 avg) with a long of 60 yards. Three of his punts landed inside the 20 and another resulted in App State starting deep in its own territory after a negative 15 yard return. Manton also kicked off six times and all six were touchbacks.

In addition to his Warhawk of the Week honor, Manton earned a trio of other awards. He was named a Lou Groza Star of the Week, National Co-Specialist of the Week by College Football Performance and Co-Louisiana Special Teams Player of the Week.

Manton and the rest of the Warhawk seniors will play their final home game of their collegiate careers on Saturday night as ULM hosts in-state rival Louisiana-Lafayette. Kick-off is slated for 6:05 p.m. with pre-game festivities set to begin at approximately 5:40 p.m.

McClendon, from Destrehan, La., played a crucial role for the Warhawks in their 3-2 comeback victory over Troy on Friday. The freshman middle blocker helped ULM complete its first conference sweep since 2011 after registering a career-high 13 kills on a highly efficient .435 hitting percentage to go along with three blocks.

For the weekend, McClendon amassed 18 kills with a .333 attack percentage, adding an ace, three digs and four blocks.

The Warhawks return to Monroe this weekend to close out the home portion of their schedule against Arkansas State and Appalachian State, respectively. First serve from the Fant Ewing Coliseum is set for Friday at 6 p.m.
