MONROE, La. – A big performance against elite competition earned Trey Caldwell from ULM football Warhawk Male of the Week, and helping extend the volleyball winning streak with a 2-0 conference slate earned Taylor Zaeske Warhawk Female of the Week, announced Wednesday.
Caldwell, a senior, recorded a team-high and tied a game-high with seven tackles in the Warhawks' road tilt at No. 12 Alabama on Saturday. He also had one pass breakup against the Crimson Tide. His seven total stops were just one shy of his career high of eight that he had at Texas A&M in 2014.
In addition to his strong defensive play, Caldwell set new career highs in both kick returns (three) and kick return yards (68). His longest return of the afternoon was a 28 yard return in the third quarter; he also had a 22 yard return in the first quarter of Saturday's contest.
Through three games in 2015, the Warhawk cornerback has tallied 12 total tackles including a tackle for loss. He also has five kickoff returns for 102 yards for an average kick return of 20.4 yards. The Warhawks are back in action this weekend as they host Georgia Southern for homecoming.
On the court, Zaeske fired a career-high 19 kills and dug 11 balls en route to her sixth double-double this season in a five-set victory over UL Lafayette, ULM's first victory over ULL since 2011. Zaeske's six double-doubles ranks as most on the team at this point of the season.
The Milwaukee, Wis., native finished ULM's 2-0 stretch with a team-high 22 kills (2.75 kills per set) in addition to 16 digs, four assists, three blocks and two service aces. Zaeske played a pivotal part in stretching the Warhawks' winning streak to six, the longest such streak since 2005.
This week's honor marks the second time Zaeske has earned Warhawk of the Week in her career. She previously won on Sept. 16, 2014.
