MONROE, La. – Velten Meyer from the ULM men's golf program and Amye Barre from the softball team were named Warhawk Male and Female of the Week winners, respectively, after big weekends on the road, announced Tuesday.
Meyer finished in a tie for 14th at the Border Olympics held at the Laredo Country Club (Mar. 11-12). Meyer posted a two-day score of 141 as he finished the tournament at three-under par.
During round one, Meyer carded a three-under par, 69 as he recorded four birdies, 13 pars and one bogey. In the final round on Saturday, Meyer was even par from start to finish as he signed his scorecard with a 72.
Meyer finished tied for third at the Border Olympics with 29 pars and he was tied for 10th with an average score of 3.95 on par fours. Meyer was tied for 11th with an average score of 3.00 on the courses par threes.
It marked the second career Warhawk of the Week honor for Meyer who previously won on April 1, 2014.
Barre, a senior first baseman, batted .500 and drove in a team-best five runs during the Warhawks' 2-1 weekend at Appalachian State. She produced an .875 slugging percentage and .636 on-base percentage during the three-game stretch.
A native of Luling, La., Barre totaled three hits, highlighted by a three-run homer and drove in four of the team's nine runs in ULM's 9-5 triumph over Appalachian State. She went 1-3 in game two and reached base twice via a walk and hit by pitch in the finale.
Barre and the Warhawks will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Ole Miss for a mid-week bout at 6 p.m. on the SEC Network.
