MONROE, La. – Velten Meyer from the ULM men's golf program and Angela Tejedor from the tennis team were on the top of their games and earned Warhawk Male and Female of the Week honors, respectively, announced Wednesday.
Meyer earned his first collegiate individual victory Tuesday at the ULM Wallace Jones Invitational. The sophomore finished the tournament with an impressive 72-hole score of 211 (-5) to pace the Warhawks to the team championship.
The Sanurug, Germany native shot his best round in the second round Monday, shooting a career-low 69 (-3). Meyer carded a 70 (-2) in his final round to secure the win.
The men's golf team returns to action on Monday at the Jim West Intercollegiate, hosted by Texas State.
Tejedor posted a perfect 4-0 weekend in El Paso, Texas. The freshman started it off with a doubles victory with Medy Blankvoort at the No. 3 position over Anastasiya Sylenko and Matilda Rose Trench of UTEP, 8-3. Tejedor followed it up with a convincing 6-1, 6-1 win over Sylenko in singles.
The next day against Western New Mexico, the Castellon, Spain product came through with two more wins. She teamed with Petra Horakova to blank Claudia Osuna and Marissa Aguirre, 8-0. In singles, Tejedor closed it out with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Aguirre at the No. 6 spot and was part of ULM's 5-0 team win.
Tejedor and the Warhawks will be back in action when they host UL-Lafayette at 12:30 p.m. on Friday. ULM will close out the weekend at home against Southern Miss at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
