Ongwae, Hunter Earn Warhawk of the Week Awards

MONROE, La. – Combining for three out of four victories on the road last week, Tylor Ongwae from the ULM men's basketball team was named Warhawk Male of the Week and Alayshia Hunter from the women's program earned Warhawk Female of the Week.

Ongwae came up big in ULM's two victories. Against Troy, he recorded his fifth 20-plus scoring game of the season. The teams were tied at halftime when Ongwae guided the team to a big second half and went 7-for-7 from the free throw line to help secure the victory. He also pulled down a game-high five rebounds.

Two days later, ULM trailed by seven at halftime when Ongwae helped the Warhawks erase their biggest halftime deficit of the season in a win. He tallied a game-high 19 points to reach double-figures for the fifth time in five league games. He played all 40 minutes in the win.

The junior has led the Warhawks in scoring in all five SBC games and is ranked second in the conference in scoring at 21.0 points per game in league action.

Hunter shined for the Warhawks during the two-game road swing. She nearly averaged a double-double as she registered 16.5 points per game and 9.5 rebounds per game. She also added two assists, two steals and one block during the conference road trip. For the week, Hunter shot 52.0% from the floor and 70.0% at the free throw line.

Against Troy, the sophomore scored 15 points and grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds in the 83-72 win over the Trojans. She finished 5-of-11 from the floor and 5-of-7 from the charity stripe en route to 15 total points. Hunter grabbed seven rebounds on the offensive side, while adding eight defensive rebounds.

Two days later at South Alabama, Hunter again set a new career-high, this time in points, with 18. She shot 8-of-14 from the floor and made two of her three free throw attempts to go with four rebounds in the narrow loss to the Jaguars.

The Warhawks will be back on the court to take on WKU as the women play on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. while the men are scheduled for Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in a nationally televised game on ESPN3. Both contests are at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
