MONROE, La. – With first-place finishes at the KMS Invitational, sophomore
Dusan Makevic and junior
Teona Glave from ULM track & field earned Warhawk Male and Female of the Week honors, respectively.
Makevic was champion in the mile run on Friday, finishing at 4:14.64 seconds. The Sabac, Serbia native set a personal-record that topped his 4:18.40 mark from last season.
The 4:14.64 is a top-5 score in the Sun Belt Conference this season. Makevic finished just ahead of freshman
Vinnie Van Puyvelde who also set a personal-record with his third-place time of 4:17.95, eighth in the SBC. Makevic also currently holds the league's second fastest time in the 3000m (8:23.87) set at the Texas A&M Invitational.
Glave won the 800m, an event in which she is the current ULM school record holder. The Manchester, Jamaica product clocked in at 2:18.11 and has the sixth fastest time in the conference. Teammate
Brittany Garrison, a freshman, also finished top-5 in the race with a personal-best time of 2:25.93.
Makevic and Glave were two of ULM's three first-place finishers on Friday as junior
Hillary Kirwa won the 3000m with a 8:41.55 time.
Other honorable mention performances at the meet included jumps from senior
Celeste Rumphs and sophomore
Corey Wesley. Rumphs set a personal-record in the long jump at 5.93m, good for third-place. The leap currently stands as the farthest of anyone in the Sun Belt Conference this season and 67th in the nation. Wesley took third in the men's long jump after landing at 7.03m, a personal indoor record. It's also a top-10 mark in the conference this season. Wesley also took top-5 in the triple jump with a 14.11m leap.
The Warhawks will head back to Birmingham, Ala. on Friday as they take part in the two-day Vulcan Invite.
