MONROE, La. – Continuing to perform at a high-level,
Isaac Grieder from the ULM track & field squad earned Warhawk Male of the Week, and the sand volleyball team of
Marcela Araya and
Zuzana Markova were named Warhawk Female of the Week winners, announced
Tuesday.
Grieder won the pole vault over the weekend at the Jim Mize Invitational and posted the No. 1 leap in the
Sun Belt Conference by clearing the bar at 5.12m. The jump ranks fourth in the NCAA east region and 10th in the country. It also shattered his previous personal-record of 4.83m.
The junior was also
honored last week with an invitation to the prestigious Texas Relays, becoming the first ULM student-athlete to ever compete in the decathlon at the meet. Grieder earned the invite after winning the heptathlon at the SBC Indoor Championships. Grieder reflected on the prestigious invitation in an
interview.Araya and Markova teamed up for a perfect 5-0 mark last week on the sand. They helped lift the Warhawks to victory on Tuesday at LSU and Sunday at South Carolina while keeping the squad in the fight against the College of Charleston, Mercer and Oregon.
Araya, a junior, and Markova, a graduate student, have won eight individual matches in a row heading into competition this weekend at Georgia State. They play at the top flight for the Warhawks.
The duo, as well as the rest of the ULM sand volleyball squad, will be back in action this weekend at the Georgia State Sand Invitational. The Warhawks will rematch with the College of Charleston before taking on Pepperdine. The remainder of the tournament will feature individual bracket play.
