MONROE, La. – Leading their teams to big victories over the weekend,
Chet Simoneaux from the ULM baseball program earned Warhawk Male of the Week honors, and
Ashleigh Simmons from women's basketball earned Warhawk Female of the Week accolades, announced Tuesday.
Simoneaux became the first ULM player to belt two homers in a game at Warhawk Field since Joey Rapp accomplished the feat against Tulane (Feb. 21, 2012). He tallied solo homers to left center in the second and sixth innings to help ULM defeat Southeastern Louisiana Sunday by a score of 3-2 and the club picked up their second home series of the season.
For the week Simoneaux tallied six hits (three for extra-bases: double, two homeruns) with three RBI and four runs scored. He broke up a potential combined no-hitter Wednesday at #24 Ole Miss and he started a strong seventh inning that saw the Warhawks move ahead 3-2.
He finished the week with an OPS of 1.034 as he posted a slugging percentage of .684 and an on-base percentage of .350. The Brusly, La., native started all five games on the week (catcher [2] at Ole Miss; DH Friday vs. Southeastern Louisiana; RF final 2 games vs. Southeastern Louisiana).
Simmons became the 17th player in ULM women's basketball history to go over the 1,000-career point mark as she hit the mark early on against South Alabama Wednesday night.
The Hawkins, Texas product was one of five Warhawks to reach double-figures in the win over the Jaguars. She was 5-of-10 from the floor and finished with 15 points and also grabbed seven rebounds. She was also a perfect 5-of-5 from the line.
Simmons was an integral part of the team's high-scoring win over Troy Saturday on senior day. She was strong on the glass as she grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds. Simmons also dished out three assists and two steals while tallying seven points in her final game inside Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
