MONROE, La. – With big performances in a home opening weekend,
Alex Dumaine from the ULM baseball program earned Warhawk Male of the Week, while
Alexis Cacioppo from the softball team was named Warhawk Female of the Week, announced Tuesday.
Dumaine struckout a career-best seven batters as he recorded the first quality start of the season for the Warhawk. The senior allowed just one run (came with two outs in sixth) and six hits (all singles) with one walk and the seven punchouts.
The Austin, Texas native limited Grand Canyon to a .250 batting average during his first start of 2014. The Warhawks will finish their homestand on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. when they host Southern Miss
Cacioppo played a huge roll, both at the plate and on the diamond, in ULM's 2014 Mardi Gras Classic championship. She had at least one hit in each game and hit for a .533 average over the five games and was named Tournament MVP. Cacioppo lifted her season average to .438 and already has three homers and 11 RBI.
The La Habra, Calif., native provided the offensive spark against both Eastern Illinois and Houston Baptist, homering in both games. Cacioppo drew a team-high three walks and struck out only once in 15 at-bats. Defensively, Cacioppo was brilliant at the hot corner.
Cacioppo will look to do it again next weekend when the Warhawks host the ULM Warhawk Classic. ULM's first of six games is at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
