MONROE, La. – ULM's three runs in the bottom of the ninth were not enough in a 7-3 loss to Georgia State on Friday night.
Singles by Jacob Stockton and Danny Springer and a walk to Brian Barefoot loaded the bases with one out in ULM's final at-bat. Cody Stone laced an opposite-field double down the left field line to get the home team on the board, and Josh Faciane stepped up to the plate before driving in Springer on a sacrifice fly to right center.
The Warhawks (13-21, 5-8 Sun Belt) threatened first as they put runners on the corners but the pair were left stranded in the home half of the first.
Georgia State (16-17, 5-8 Sun Belt) plated the first runs of the game on a two out, two-RBI double by Will Kilgore in the top of the second. The Panthers pushed the lead to 3-0 an inning later as Joey Roach picked up a RBI single to right.
ULM, in the bottom of the third, was able to load the bases, but the Warhawks were unable to scratch any runs across.
Georgia State added a pair of runs in the top of the fifth to extend the lead to 5-0. Roach and Darius Sewell each tallied RBI hits in the frame. Two innings later the Panthers added two more to set their final total at seven runs.
