THE BASICS

ATLANTA, Ga. -  The ULM softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Georgia State, as the hosts walked off with a 3-2 win in the opening game before the Warhawks fell by a 5-2 score in game two.

TURNING POINT

-In the opening game, Georgia State loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning to set up a sacrifice fly and bring in the inning run.

-ULM used a run in the top of the sixth inning in game two to tie the game, but saw Georgia State answer with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning off of a two-run home run and an error to take the lead for good.   

NOTABLES

-In game one, the top four in the lineup - Sydney Mckay, Cheyanne Lyon, Jayden Mount and Hunter Hogan - each recorded a hit, while Samantha Agamaite, Sami Billeaudeau and Megan Shaw also contributed one hit apiece.

-Trailing 1-0, ULM used a squeeze bunt by Melanie Coyne to score Victoria Pederson in the top of the third inning and tie the game. Hunter Hogan singled to left field to open the fourth inning and later scored on Agamaite's double to give ULM a short lead, as Georgia State tied things up with a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth and then walked off in the bottom of the seventh inning.

-Jessie Watts was saddled with the loss after pitching the final two innings of the contest, allowing six hits and the winning run to score. Paige Murray and Rachael Murphy also saw time in the circle in game one, allowing five hits and two runs combined over 2 2/3 innings of work.

-Watts and Jayden Mount recorded two hits apiece to combine for four of the ULM's five hits in game two. Agamaite notched the only other Warhawk hit.

-ULM took the lead in the top of the third inning on a sacrifice fly from Hunter Hogan that scored Cheyanne Lyon before Georgia State answered in the bottom of the third with a solo home run. After the hosts took the lead with a second solo homer in the fourth, ULM tied the game in the top of the sixth when Agamaite singled and scored on Sami Billeadeau's RBI ground out, but Georgia State plated three runs on four hits, including a two-run homer, to take the lead for good.

-Coyne was saddled with the loss after five innings of work, allowing five runs on six hits with three strikeouts.

-The Warhawks and Georgia State wrap up the weekend series on Sunday afternoon with a 12:00 CST start from Atlanta.
