Lions Bring Hot Bats to Monroe, ULM Falls 8-2

MONROE, La. – Southeastern undoubtedly brought their bats to Monroe on Tuesday (Apr. 10), hitting three home runs, as the ULM Warhawks fell to the Lions 8-2.

The Warhawks (21-15, 8-7) were out hit by the Lions 12-6 in the loss, and left seven runners on base over the course of the contest.

Senior Paige Murray takes her fifth loss of the season after putting in just over three innings of work, allowing eight hits during her time in the circle.

SLU was the first to score with a solo home run in the first inning, off the bat of third baseman Mahalia Gibson.

The Lions (23-15, 9-6) pushed their lead out further over the next three innings with two RBI singles and a three-run home run by senior Maddie Edmonston.

Trailing 6-0, ULM kicked it into gear, plating two in the fourth inning to cut the Lions lead to four-runs.

Sophomore Ana Hogan connected on a far ball to right center, making it to second base on the hit and scoring Rochelle Roberts on the play. Roberts reached on a bunt single and stole second earlier in the inning.

Hogan crossed the plate herself just as junior Brie Wrobel doubled down the left field line.

Southeastern's Gibson put another solo home run over the left field wall for the Lions, and Southeastern took their 7-2 lead into the sixth inning after holding the Warhawks scoreless in the bottom of the fifth.

Roberts led off the bottom of the sixth inning with a double off the fence in right-center field, a fellow senior Cheyanne Lyon followed with a walk. The Lions would make a pitching change, but Ana Hogan would walk as well, loading the bases for ULM.

SLU was able to escape the Hawk's offensive attack with an infield fly call on Wrobel and a ground double play off the bat of Megan Shaw.

Back-to-back doubles in the seventh would give Southeastern a 8-2 lead, and despite a valiant effort at the plate in the bottom of the inning, the Warhawks were unable to overcome the deficit.

Sophomore Jayden Mount proved key to the Warhawks defense today, with four assists and two put-outs.

Roberts and Ana Hogan led the Warhawks at the plate, with two hits apiece. Roberts finished her 26th game with a hit in the past 28 contests.

ULM will hit the road to South Alabama this weekend to face Sun Belt opponent USA in a three-game weekend series. Game one of the series is slated for a 1 PM start on Saturday (Apr.14).
