ULM Breaks Losing Streak with 8-5 win on Senior Day

MONROE, La. – It was the win they so desperately needed, breaking an eight game losing streak with an 8-5 win over Sun Belt opponent Georgia State on Senior Day on Sunday (April 29). Seniors Rochelle Roberts, Paige Murray, Hunter Hogan, and Cheyanne Lyon were all honored for their time as a part of the ULM softball program.

"Today was a great team win," said head softball coach Corey Lyon. "We got contribution up and down the lineup today on both offense and defense. It's a great feeling, being able to send this group of seniors out on a win."

ULM managed eight runs on 10 hits, for its 22nd game this season with 10 or more hits.

After two scoreless innings, Georgia State got on the board first, with a home run from the none other Ivie Drake.

The Warhawks answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning to gain the lead, with the help of junior Sydney McKay- who singled to left field to score Roberts and Megan Shaw.

ULM posted a hefty six-run fifth inning to take an 8-1 lead over GSU; McKay once again, kicked off the scoring rally with a single up the middle scoring both Roberts and Shaw for the second time.

Sophomore Ana Hogan followed with a single of her own, scoring sophomore Jayden Mount who reached on a single to push both Roberts and Shaw into scoring position.

The Panthers committed one of their four errors after a hit by Hunter Hogan caused a throwing error by the third baseman, giving both Ana Hogan and McKay the chance to score.

GSU gave an adequate attempt in the sixth inning to take away ULM's lead with three runs off back-to-back doubles from Skylar Mosel and Arden Jobe, and a sacrifice fly RBI in the seventh- but the Warhawks pulled out all the stops to keep the Panthers bats at bay.

"Next week, we need to just play with no fear and let it all show, everything we've worked on this season comes to a head next weekend. I feel like we match up well with ULL so it's just a matter of being aggressive and playing our style of softball," Lyon said.

ULM will hit the road for the final Sun Belt series of the season, headed to Ragin Cajun country, on the hunt to secure a ticket to Lafayette for the Sun Belt Championship.
