SAN MARCOS, Texas – The ULM soccer team fell for the eighth time this season, after Sun Belt opponent Texas State scored two goals in each half to defeat the Warhawks 4-0 at the Bobcat Soccer Complex on Friday night (Sept. 14).
"Its always tough to go on the road and pull off the win against a conference opponent, but to play an athletically talent and well-coached Texas State squad on the road requires a lot more discipline than we brought to the field tonight," said head soccer coach
Keyton Wheelock.
"We'll go back to the drawing board and start preparing for next week," Wheelock said. "In order to be successful, we have to create more opportunities and take advantage of those opportunities."
Starting goalkeeper
Brooke-Lynn Scroggins and freshman
Bre Truscott split the 90 minutes in goal, making three and eight saves respectively.
ULM's style of play is far from shot-heavy, and often the Warhawks finish with a shot efficiency higher than that of their opponent, including tonight in which the nearly 60% of ULM's seven shots were on goal.
Unfortunately, the Bobcats were able to send off 15 total shots on goal, four of which found the back of the net leading to Texas State's win.
After two first-half goals, the Warhawks picked up the intensity and started the second half firing, with a shot on goal by freshman
Camryn Ciaramella and back-to-back corner kicks by ULM.
Junior
Alexiss Trudeau had her turn at the Bobcat goal keeper and within two minutes, took two shots, one of which went wide and the other saved by Texas State's Heather Martin.
Freshman
Maelwenn Gaiffas was credited with ULM's two last goals. Gaiffas' first shot, at the 75:09 mark traveled high while her second was on target but Martin once again came up with the save.
Gaiffas and Trudeau were the only Warhawks with multiple shots, in addition to Ciaramella's solo shot and one from
Mackenzie Bell as well.
ULM falls to 0-8 on the season and drops the all-time series with Texas State to 6-13-1. The Warhawks will have an extra day of rest with no contest on Sunday (Sept. 16) and will return to the pitch on Friday (Sept. 21) to face Arkansas State in State University, Ark.
