JONESBORO, Ark. – The ULM soccer team fell on Friday afternoon (Sept. 21) to Arkansas State in a 4-0 decision. The Warhawks trailed 1-0 at the half, but the Red Wolves emerged from the half with a strong offensive attack that forced some ULM mishaps that would eventually put the Warhawks away.
"We gave up today's match on our own by making mental mistakes that cost us big plays," said head soccer coach
Keyton Wheelock. "[Alex] Skidmore and Annelore [Mievis] really stepped up today in terms sticking to the game plan and adapting in different situations. Skidmore is one of my most consistent players and will continue to be one of our leaders throughout the season. I'm proud of Annelore's performance today, she has come a long way since preseason and she's finally fitting into the scheme and on the way to reaching her full potential."
Arkansas State's first strike came at the 15:56 mark. Red Wolf Riley Ebenroth took a shot at freshman Warhawk keeper
Bre Truscott, but Truscott would come up with the save only to have ASU's Sarah Sodoma find the rebound and score.
Truscott would go on to finish the match with five saves, she now has 45 on the season.
Returning for the second half, ULM saw Arkansas State's lead jump to three. A Red Wolf corner less than five minutes into the half would lead to an own goal by the Warhawks and then a foul by ULM in the box gave ASU's Dana O'Boye her fourth penalty kick conversion of her career.
The Red Wolves' fourth and final goal came with 82:30 on the clock. A header by Bailey Gellis and assist by Shayla Dixon would make the deficit too much for ULM to overcome as they fell to 0-9 on the season and 0-2 in conference play.
Freshman
Cassidy Wiest was the only Warhawk with multiple shots and teammate
Camryn Ciaramella tallied ULM's lone shot on goal.
The Warhawks will load the bus and travel south to rival Louisiana on Sunday (Sept. 23) to close out the road weekend before returning to Monroe to host Georgia Southern next Friday (Sept. 28).
