MONROE, La. – The ULM soccer team dropped its 11
th consecutive match on Friday (Sept. 28), in a 7-2 decision to Sun Belt opponent Georgia Southern.
The Eagles score three first-half goals, taking a hefty lead over ULM, a feeling all too familiar with the Warhawks.
Less than two minutes before the break,
Rahel Zerazion took a shot at the Georgia Southern goal. Zerazion's first shot was deflected but she managed to get a foot on the rebound, scoring on her second attempt.
Trailing 3-1 at halftime, ULM was outshot 15-4 and had only one corner opportunity to Gerogia Southern's five.
Returning from the half, the Warhawks continued their momentum, leading to a goal at the 77:14 mark by freshman
Cassidy Wiest, it would be her second of the season.
Wiest scored after a Georgia Southern foul put freshman teammate
Maelwenn Gaiffas over the ball on the left line, mid-way between the box and midfield. Gaiffas sent one into the box that would be saved by the Eagle goalkeeper, but Wiest saw the deflection and put a foot on the ball, sending it into the back of the net.
Besides Zerarzion and Wiest, Cherry Alexis,
Camryn Ciaramella,
Erika Wiest,
Taylor Altieri, and
Mackenzie Bell all took shots at the Georgia Southern goal.
ULM was unable to keep the energy high, and with the final ten minutes ticking down, Georgia Southern sparked an offensive attack that led to four Eagle goals in less than eight minutes.
The Warhawks 11 total shots were the second most this season, and their two goals marked the second time this year that ULM scored multiple goals. The two goals were also the first at home this season.
ULM will host Little Rock on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
