Warhawk Soccer Defeated by Southeastern in Lion Shoot-Out

MONROE, La. –  The ULM soccer team allowed five goals in the first half of play on Friday afternoon (Sept. 7) in Southeastern's 6-0 win against the Warhawks at home at the ULM Soccer Complex.

The Warhawks did their best offensively, setting a season-high with 14 shots in the loss. Despite the push on offense, ULM struggled to keep SLU out of the back of the net.

Freshmen Mackenzie Bell and Cassidy Wiest both fired off three shots into Southeastern's box, but none of which made it past the Lady Line goalkeeper.

Freshman Jamie Raines and sophomore Jessie Cooper each scored their second goals of the season and seniors Vanessa Arzaluz and Payton Colson each scored a goal to add to the Lady Lions' offensive onslaught.

Freshman Lady Lion Brogan Bernadas, a forward from Covington, Louisiana, scored just three minutes into the match on an assist from senior Amber Marinero. In the 9th minute, Bernadas, again, got free and knocked in her second goal on an assist from senior Christina Cutura.

Cutura, a forward from Pearl River, Louisiana, attempted seven shots and had two assists and now leads the Southland Conference with 39 shots.

In the 27th minute, Lady Lion Jamie Raines scored on an assist from Arzaluz making it 3-0 Southeastern.  Southeastern continued their aggressive attack offensively. Scoring back-to-back in the 37th and 38th minutes to take a 5-0 lead at the half.

Jessi Cooper polished off the Southeastern win with a goal in the 67th minute on Cutura's second assist of the match.

ULM will return to the complex on Sunday to face Grambling at 1 p.m. Admission is free and links to live stats are available at ULMWarhawks.com.
