MONROE, La. – The ULM Warhawks were swept by I-20 rival Louisiana Tech Tuesday night, falling 3-0 at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
"When we executed the game plan, we were spot on," head coach Charlie Olson said. "And when we didn't execute, Tech took full advantage of it."
Louisiana Tech (11-4, 1-0 Conference USA) jumped out to a quick lead in set one before a Kate Blasingame kill put ULM (9-8, 0-2 Sun Belt) back on the right track. A kill by Alix Christie brought the Warhawks back within four.
The Lady Techsters pulled away again before the Warhawks found a rhythm and a kill from Lauren Appelman put ULM in the lead, 24-23. However, Louisiana Tech wasn't phased and won set one, 26-24.
"We had the momentum, but just couldn't finish," Olson said.
Mikaela Worley put the Warhawks on the board first in the second set with a kill. The two teams went on to trade points before an Emily Boylan kill gave the Lady Techsters a 15-11 lead.
"Anytime you spot your opponent five or six points, it's tough to come back," Olson said.
Later in the set, Blasingame nailed a kill to bring ULM within two. Louisiana Tech pulled away again and won set two, 25-21.
The Lady Techsters jumped out to a 5-0 lead to start set three. Appelman gave the Warhawks their first point of the set and the Warhawks were able to come within three. Louisiana Tech set the cruise control and rolled on to a 25-19 set three win.
The Warhawks will remain at home for a 6 p.m. conference matchup on Friday against Coastal Carolina at Fant-Ewing.
"It's great being at home," Olson said. "We'll take it one game at a time and show them what we've got."
