Warhawks Fall Against Ragin' Cajuns

MONROE, La. – The ULM Warhawks lost Sunday's home matinee to the rival Ragin' Cajuns, 2-0, at Brown Stadium.

"We showed a lot of heart in the first half," head coach Keyton Wheelock said.

ULM (3-9-2, 0-6 Sun Belt) jumped out of the gate with a shot by Madi Garza at the five minute mark, but couldn't find the back of the net. Both teams settled into a rhythm and started battling it out. Angel Hailey stifled the Ragin' Cajuns' (7-5-3, 3-2-2 Sun Belt) offense, making five saves on six shots in the first half. The two teams went into halftime scoreless.

The Ragin' Cajuns took the first shot of the second half, but missed. However, Olivia Gelpi was able to find the back of the net at the 53 minute mark to give the Ragin' Cajuns a 1-0 lead.

Rahel Zerazion answered for the Warhawks with a shot of her own, but it was wide left. Karleen Bedre was able to score again for the Ragin' Cajuns at the 70 minute mark to take a 2-0 lead. Both Camryn Ciaramella and Khyjian Thomas had opportunities, but neither were able to capitalize and the Ragin' Cajuns held on for a 2-0 win.

"We struggled to connect passes in the second half, but still showed fight at the end," Wheelock said.

The Warhawks will go back on the road for a 6 p.m. matchup on Friday against Appalachian State.
