ULM Soccer Falls to Appalachian State

BOONE, NC. – The ULM Warhawks dropped Friday night's soccer match at Appalachian State, 3-0.

"We made some mistakes in the first half that we couldn't recover from," head coach Keyton Wheelock said.

Appalachian State (5-8-2, 2-4-1 Sun Belt) didn't waste any time scoring the first goal of the night. Kyndall Edwards received a pass off of a header and found the back of the net to give the Mountaineers a 1-0 lead at the six minute mark.

Khyjian Thomas had an opportunity at the 10 minute mark for ULM (3-10-2, 0-7 Sun Belt), but her shot hit the post. Appalachian State bounced back three minutes later with another goal by Kristin Brown to take a 2-0 lead.

The Mountaineers took 13 shots in the first half, but didn't score again as both teams went into the half with Appalachian State up, 2-0.

Camryn Ciaramella came out swinging for the Warhawks with a shot three minutes into the second that went wide right. Alexiss Trudeau and Rahel Zerazion followed that up with shots at the 65 minute mark, but neither of them could find the back of the net.

The Mountaineers bounced back at the 68 minute mark with another goal by Emma McGibany to take a 3-0 lead. Trudeau, Amanda Castillo and Madi Garza all took shots during the rest of the half, but couldn't capitalize and Appalachian State rolled on to a 3-0 win.

"We showed a lot of heart in that second half, but we just couldn't capitalize," Wheelock said.

The Warhawks will remain on the road for a noon matchup on Sunday against Georgia Southern.
