Late-Game Heroics Give Nevada 3-2 Win Over ULM

HOUSTON, Texas – Nevada's Ashley Salausa dropped a single into left-center field, scoring Lauren Gutierrez from second base for the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning to earn the 3-2 victory over the ULM softball team in the second game of the Houston Classic on Saturday, Feb. 16.

ULM (1-7) was led offensively by Victoria Pederson, who was the lone Warhawk in the lineup with multiple hits, finishing 2-for-4 with an RBI. On the mound, Adrianna Chavarria (1-2) went the distance for ULM, tossing 7.1 innings, scattering five hits and allowing three runs in that span, while walking three batters and fanning four Wolfpack hitters.

Nevada (2-3) posted five hits on the afternoon with no one hitter having multiple hits in the game. Julia Jensen (2-0) maintained her perfect record on the mound after going eight innings, surrendering five hits and two runs, walking two Warhawk hitters and striking out five.

Jessie Watts got things rolling for the Warhawks in the first inning when she reached base on a fielder's choice that scored Sydney McKay in the process. Nevada bounced back in the home half of the inning on a home run to right field by leadoff hitter Sadaria McAlister.

The Wolfpack turned to the long ball again in the second, taking the 2-1 lead on a home run to right center off the bat of Jyllian Ahart.

ULM broke its four-inning scoreless streak in the fifth when a single to second base by Victoria Pederson plated Korie Kreps to make for a 2-2 contest.

The Warhawks return to the diamond on Sunday, Feb. 17, when they take on Nicholls State at 11:30 a.m. and host Houston at 2 p.m.
