Warhawks Experience Offensive Woes Versus Nicholls State

HOUSTON, Texas – A pair of multi-run innings by Nicholls State in the Houston Classic resulted in an 8-0 victory over ULM in softball action on Sunday, Feb. 17.
 
The Warhawk offense was limited to three hits in the game with Sydney McKay (1-3), Jayden Mount (1-3, double) and Megan Shaw (1-1) responsible for each of the hits. Murphy Williams (0-4) was the pitcher of record, logging five innings on the mound where she allowed eight runs (six earned) on seven hits, two walks and struck out one Colonel batter.
 
Nicholls State posted its first multi-run inning in the game in the first when Kasey Frederick lifted a three-run home run over the center field wall, scoring Emma Holland and Samantha Mracich to give the Colonels the lead.
 
Three innings later, a single to second base by Melise Gossen, who advanced to second on an error, plated Danielle Duplay for the 4-0 Colonels' advantage. Two batters later, Mallery Marino brought Gossen home from third base when she reached on a fielder's choice. The Nicholls State offense was not done, as Holland delivered a two-run single to right field, scoring Marino and Jewel Lara in the process for the 7-0 lead.
 
The Colonels managed to bookend their first runs of the game and the final run of the game in the same fashion as Veronica Villafranco delivered a pinch hit solo home run to left center for the 8-0 final.
