Houston Clash Ends with Setback to Cougars

HOUSTON, Texas – The ULM softball team concluded the Houston Clash with a 4-0 setback to the host Cougars on Sunday, Feb. 17, after being limited to three hits over the course of the final game of the tournament.
 
Among the three players to earn at least one hit for ULM (1-7), all of which were singles, were Sydney McKay (1-3), Brie Wrobel (1-3) and Bailey Thibodeaux (1-3). Freshman hurler Adrianna Chavarria (1-3) pitched a complete game six hitter, allowing four runs (three earned), three walks while striking out two Houston hitters.
 
Sarah Queen kept Houston (5-5) alive in the first with a two-out single to the shortstop, moving to second on a fielder's choice by Arielle James. Two batters later, with the bases loaded following a walk of Abby Odneal, Charese Wyatt delivered a bases-clearing double to right-center field that provided the Cougars with a 3-0 lead.
 
Neither team managed a run until the sixth, when Houston tacked on its fourth run. Odneal played a role again, this time delivering a single to second base, scoring Sarah Queen who reached base with a leadoff single to the left side of the infield.
 
The Warhawks head to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, this weekend to take part in the Easton Bama Bash. ULM begins the three-day, five-game tournament with a pair of games against Minnesota (11 a.m.) and Missouri State (1:30 p.m.) on Friday, Feb. 22.
