No. 6 Alabama Remains Perfect with 5-1 Win Over Warhawks

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Playing ranked teams in back-to-back games for the first time this season, the ULM softball team dropped a 5-1 decision to No. 6 Alabama on Sunday, Feb. 24 to complete the Easton Bama Bash.

Alabama (15-0), host of the three-day event, tallied two runs on two hits in the home half of the first inning. Elissa Brown worked the count to draw a leadoff walk, stealing second to move herself into scoring position. Two batters later, with Brown at third, Bailey Hemphill singled into center field to give the Crimson Tide their first run of the game. Merris Schroder kept the inning alive with two-out single to second base, scoring Hemphill from third, as Alabama stormed in front 2-0.

ULM sliced the lead in half in the fourth after Jayden Mount hit a single up the middle to put the first Warhawk runner on base. Brie Wrobel slid her teammate into scoring position with a grounder to second and Ana Hogan roped a single to center field to score Mount to pull to within 2-1.

Hemphill again proved to be a nuisance for the Warhawks with a single to third base in the fifth. Kloyee Anderson served as a pinch runner for Hemphill, stealing second with Caroline Hardy at the plate, who delivered a two-run home run to left field that stretched the Crimson Tide lead to 4-1.

When the Crimson Tide offense returned to the field in the sixth, Kaylee Tow reached base on a throwing error by the shortstop, moving to second on play. Two batters later, Hardy reached on an infield error that brought Tow home for the 5-1 Alabama lead.

Hemphill was the only player in the game with multiple hits, finishing 2-of-3 with a run and an RBI. ULM countered with three team hits, which came Sydney McKay (1-3), Mount (1-3, run) and Hogan (1-3).

Courtney Gettins (2-0) earned the complete game win for Alabama, allowing one run on three hits while striking out five batters. ULM's Karly Taranto (0-2) also went the distance, allowing five runs (three earned runs) on four hits and eight walks with one strikeout.
