ULM Falls in Series Finale to App State, 5-0

MONROE, La. – After putting together a three-run third inning, the Appalachian State softball team cruised to a 5-0 victory over ULM to complete the three-game series sweep at the ULM Softball Complex on Sunday, March 17.

ULM (4-22, 1-5 Sun Belt) finished with four hits in the contest, with Jayden Mount, Jaclyn Kresta, Bailey Thibodeaux and Korie Kreps collecting one each.

Adrianna Chavarria (2-6) was responsible for the loss after allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits with two walks in 2.1 innings on the mound.

The Mountaineers (17-7, 6-0) were led offensively by the tandem of Keri White (2-4, RBI, run, double) and Baylee Morton (3-3, run), who accounted for five of the team's eight hits.

Kenzie Longanecker, who recorded wins in the first and third games of the series, improved to 10-0 on the season after scattering four hits over 7.0 innings while allowing one walk and striking out seven Warhawk hitters.

App State broke the scoreless tie in the third after Morton opened the frame with a leadoff walk. Two batters later, with Morton on second, White roped a double to left field for the first run of the game, advancing to third on a throwing error. Caylie Kifer walked and quickly stole second ahead of a fielder's choice by Jenny Dodd that loaded the bases. Haley Stewart delivered a single to right field, reaching second on the throw, as both Kifer and White scored to push the lead to 3-0.

The fourth App State run crossed the plate in the fourth inning when Megan Walker trotted home from third on a sacrifice fly to left field by Dodd.

The Mountaineers tallied their final run of the game in the fifth by virtue of a single to third by Walker, which scored Sidney Russell from third, who had reached base on a walk to start the inning.

ULM returns to the diamond on Tuesday, March 18 when the Warhawks play host to Central Arkansas at 6 p.m.
