ULM Softball Drops Seesaw Battle in Series Opener at Coastal Carolina, 7-5

CONWAY, S.C. – A three-run home run in the sixth inning off the bat of Coastal Carolina's Courtney Dean proved to be the difference as the Chanticleers claimed a 7-5 victory over visiting ULM on Friday, March 29 in the opener of a three-game series between the two Sun Belt teams.

ULM (4-28, 1-9 Sun Belt) rallied from a 4-3 deficit in the top of the sixth as Korie Kreps started off the frame with a walk. Two batters later, Sydney McKay moved her teammate into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt. Jayden Mount followed with a double to left-center field, knotting the game at 4-4. Bailey Thibodeaux kept the inning alive with a double down the left-field line, scoring Mount, to forge the Warhawks in front 5-4.

Coastal Carolina (25-9, 5-5) rebounded from a pair of outs to open the sixth, thanks to back-to-back singles to center field by Taylor Sweigart and Kassidy Smith. Dean followed with a three-run homer on a 3-1 pitch to give CCU a lead it wouldn't relinquish.
