ULM Earns Doubleheader Split; Takes Game 2 Against Troy, 4-1

TROY, Ala.Sydney McKay was responsible for a two hits, including a sixth-inning double that resulted in two runs, as she helped lead the ULM softball team to a 4-1 victory over Sun Belt Conference rival Troy in Friday's (March 8) second game of a doubleheader.

The ULM win, which avenged an 8-0 setback in the first game of the league opener, evened the Warhawks' record in the Sun Belt at 1-1.

ULM put the first run of the game across the plate in the second inning when Jayden Mount crushed a 1-1 pitch over the left-center field wall for her first homerun of the season. Troy's Katie Lively answered with a home run of her own in the bottom of the inning to tie the score at 1-1.

Brie Wrobel forged the Warhawks back in front in the third with a double to left center that scored Jaclyn Kresta from first for a 2-1 lead. The ULM defense, coupled with a solid performance on the mound by Adrianna Chavarria, limited Troy to just two runs over the next three innings.

In the top of the sixth, Korie Kreps kept ULM alive with a two-out single up the middle that moved Megan Shaw into scoring position. McKay followed with a single down the left-field line, clearing the bases in the process, to extend the Warhawks' lead to 4-1.

Troy (17-8, 1-1 Sun Belt) would finish the game with two hits, one in the seventh and eighth, respectively, as ULM improved to 4-18 overall.

Joining McKay with two hits on the day for the Warhawks was Kreps, who finished 2-for-3 including a double and scored a run. Chavarria (2-4) surrendered just one run on five hits with four walks and four strikeouts.

Anne Willis (5-4) was the pitcher of record for Troy, logging 5.2 innings while allowing four runs on six hits with two walks and seven strikeouts.

The two teams conclude the three-game series on Sunday, March 10 at 1 p.m.
