Troy Uses Two Three-Run Innings to Down ULM

TROY, Ala. – Troy scored three runs in both the second and fifth frames to earn a 6-1 victory over visiting ULM on Saturday afternoon (March 9) at the Troy Softball Complex.

The Warhawks (4-19) established themselves early in the first inning as Sydney McKay opened the game with a double to left-center field. Jessie Watts followed with single through the left side of the infield, putting runners at the corners, before Jaclyn Kresta reached on a muffed throw at first to score McKay from third.

The Trojans answered in the second when Katie Lively and Taylor Corbett drew back-to-back two-out walks to keep the inning alive. Kayless Hussey followed by taking a 1-2 pitch over the left-field wall, giving Troy a 3-1 advantage.

Troy maintained its two-run lead until the fifth, when Hope Hernandez worked the count to draw a leadoff walk. Two batters later, Katie Webb walked to put a pair of Trojan runners on base, setting the table for Stephanie Snyder who responded with a single up the middle, scoring Hernandez from third. Bailey Taylor followed with a single up the middle, clearing the bases for the final 6-1 margin.

Five Troy players had at least one hit in the contest, including Hussey (1-3) and Taylor (1-3) who combined for five RBI. Leanna Johnson was responsible for the Troy victory after tossing a complete game, four-hitter that resulted in one run with one walk and seven strikeouts.

Watts was the best hitter of the day for ULM, finishing 2-for-3 from the plate. Kresta was responsible for the lone ULM RBI. Jessie Watts (0-4) took the loss after allowing six runs on five hits with four walks and two strikeouts.
