ULM Softball Records Non-Conference Win at Southeastern Louisiana, 4-3

HAMMOND, La. – The ULM softball team established a 4-0 lead in the first four innings of the game and held off a sixth-inning rally by Southeastern Louisiana to earn a 4-3 non-conference victory on Tuesday, April 2.

The Warhawks (6-29) broke a scoreless tie in the top of the second when Jaclyn Kresta extended the inning with a two-out walk. Brie Wroble followed with a single up the middle and Korie Kreps loaded the bases for ULM with a base knock through the right side of the infield. Victoria Pederson brought home the first run of the game after she was hit by a pitch. That 1-0 lead quickly ballooned to 3-0 when Sydney McKay doubled down the left field line, scoring Kreps and Wrobel.

The ULM extended its lead to 4-0 in the top of the fourth after McKay hit a two-out single up the middle and quickly moved to second with a stolen base. Next, Jayden Mount roped a single up the middle, scoring McKay.

That lead remained intact until the bottom of the sixth when SLU's Mima Doucet reached on a fielder's choice with two outs. Teammate Ali McCoy sent a single past the shortstop, putting two runners on for the Lions, with pinch hitter Madison Watson on deck. Watson delivered a bases-clearing triple to right-center field, slicing the ULM lead in half to 4-2. Madisen Blackford followed with a single to center field, scoring pinch runner Amberlyn Alfano. Jessie Watts came out of the Warhawk bullpen to record the final out of the sixth as Bobbi Smith flied out center field.

ULM, which picked up its third road win of the season, was led offensively by McKay (2-4, 2 RBI, run) and Kreps (2-3, run), who recorded two hits each. Five different Warhawks collected at least one hit in the game.

ULM starter Adrianna Chavarria, who improved her record to 4-8, allowed three runs on six hits over 5.2 innings with three walks and three strikeouts. Watts, who retired SLU's last four hitters, recorded her first save.

Lady Lion starter Sophie Hannabas (3-4) took the loss after surrendering three runs on two hits over 1.2 innings with one walk.

With the loss, SLU slipped to 19-15 on the season.

The Warhawks, who have won two of their last three games, return home to open a three-game Sun Belt series against Georgia Southern, beginning Friday, April 5 at 2 p.m.
