ULM Delivers 10 Top-10 Finishes at Southern Miss Open Friday

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The ULM track and field team had a solid first day of action at the Southern Miss Open, coming through with 10 Top-10 finishes in the three events that took place on Friday, April 26.
 
Among the four individuals to reach the podium for ULM was Micaiah Dendy, who earned her third first-place finish of the season and second in the triple jump after a leap of 12.26 meters.
 
Lebrun Nelson was the top men's finisher, also in the triple jump, as he placed second with a mark of 15.46 meters. Nelson was one of two Warhawks to compete in the event, along with Colm Bourke, who placed eighth after stretching himself for 13.84 meters.
 
Jakob Fudge claimed third in the men's hammer throw with a toss of 52.64 meters, snagging one of four Top-3 finishes for ULM on Friday. Fudge, one of two Warhawks to participate in the event, was joined by Micah Dye, who took seventh with a heave of 51.34 meters.
 
Cole McKnight also posted a third-place performance for the Warhawks, thanks to his toss of 58.31 meters in the men's javelin. McKnight finished three spots in front of teammate Mason Nichols, who came through with a mark of 51.43 meters.
 
A total of four Warhawks competed in the men's javelin, including Austin Walker (47.81m) and Darryl Givens (46.38m), who placed ninth and 11th, respectively.
 
The remaining Top-10 performances came in the women's hammer throw by the combination of Alivia Busch and Brianna Sam. Busch emerged with her seventh Top-5 effort of the season, placing fifth with a distance of 48.32 meters. Sam followed closely with a sixth-place showing after a toss of 47.32 meters.
 
The Southern Miss Open continues on Saturday, April 27.
