Watts Tosses Complete Game; ULM Evens Series Against Georgia State, 6-2

ATLANTA –  Jessie Watts allowed no earned runs over seven innings while Jayden Mount and Ana Hogan each drove in two runs as ULM evened its three-game series against Georgia State at a game apiece, with a 6-2 victory Saturday (April 27) afternoon at Bob Heck Field.

ULM (10-39, 6-16 Sun Belt) jumped out to a 1-0 lead as Sydney McKay homered to right-center field on the sixth pitch of the game from GSU starter Amanda Chance.

Two innings later, McKay earned a leadoff walk and scored two batters later when Mount drove an RBI single into left field. Hogan then greeted Panther reliever Emily Soles with a two-run homer to right-center field to extend the Warhawks' lead to 4-0.

Georgia State (8-42, 5-18) cut the lead in half in the bottom of the fourth by scoring two unearned runs. Skylar Mosel's two-out single to left field scored Gabby Benson and Kalynn Hicks followed with an RBI single through the right side of the infield, scoring Baylee Sexton from third, but the rally ended as ULM right fielder Kennedy Page threw out Mosel, who tried to score from second base on the play, at home plate.

ULM manufactured two insurance runs in the top of the seventh, stretching its lead back to four at 6-2. With runners at first and second with one out, Korie Kreps doubled down the left field line, scoring Megan Shaw. Mount followed with a sacrifice fly to center that scored Kreps from third.

Watts, who gave up two singles and a walk in the bottom of the seventh, pitched out of the bases loaded jam by getting Remington Hasty to pop back to the circle for the final out.

The Warhawks outhit GSU, 10-7, with Kreps (3-for-3, RBI) and McKay (2-for-3, 3 runs, RBI) leading the offensive attack.

Watts, who won her third-straight start to improve to 3-7, recorded her third complete game of the season. She scattered seven hits and issued two walks over seven innings.

Chance (0-15), who went just 2.1 innings and allowed three runs on four hits with a walk and three strikeouts, took the loss for the Panthers.

ULM and Georgia State conclude the three-game series on Sunday, April 28 at 12 p.m. CT. The Warhawks are attempting to win their second-straight Sun Belt series.
