McKnight Wins Second-Straight Javelin Title at Sun Belt Outdoor Championships

JONESBORO, Ark. – ULM sophomore Cole McKnight captured his second-straight individual title in the men's javelin with a toss of 202-5 (61.69 meters) at the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday, May 10. McKnight was one of eight Warhawks to place in the Top 10 during the opening day of competition at Arkansas State.
 
In addition to McKnight's repeat performance as the Sun Belt's javelin champion, three other ULM competitors finished in the Top 10 in the event. Mason Nichols joined McKnight on the podium after placing third with a distance of 187-6 (57.14m) while Austin Walker (162-5 / 49.50m) and Darryl Givens (159-9 / 48.70m) claimed ninth and 10th, respectively. McKnight and Nichols combined to score 16 points for the Warhawks, who finished Day 1 in fourth place in the men's overall team standings.
 
Jakob Fudge also was a Top-10 performer for ULM, earning a ninth-place finish in the men's hammer with a heave of 173-7 (52.92m).
 
Warhawk distance runner Kiprotich Mitei, who competed in the 10,000-meter run, crossed the line in 10th place with a time of 31:32.21.
 
Jasmine Williams qualified for the finals in the 400-meter hurdles by placing third in her heat and seventh overall with a personal-record time of 63.66.
 
Day 2 of competition at the Sun Belt Outdoor Track & Field Championships sets underway Saturday, May 11 with the completion of the decathlon (9 a.m.) and heptathlon (9:30 a.m.). Field event finals begin at 12:30 p.m. with the women's long jump while the running preliminaries begin at 5:30 p.m.
