ULM Offense Shut Down in Second-Round Loss to Texas State, 3-0

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Dalilah Barrera and Meagan King combined for a two-hit shutout as No. 4-seed Texas State defeated No. 8-seed ULM, 3-0, Wednesday night (May 8) in Game 4 of the 2019 Sun Belt Conference Softball Championship.
 
Barrera didn't allow a hit over 3.1 innings with four walks and four strikeouts. King (18-11), who pitched 3.2 scoreless innings of relief to pick up the victory, surrendered two hits to go along with two strikeouts.
 
The Warhawks went 1-for-11 with runners on, including 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position. ULM (12-41) loaded the bases with one out in the fourth but failed to score. The Warhawks stranded seven base runners.
 
In the bottom of the first, Bailee Carter greeted ULM starter Murphy Williams with a leadoff double to left field, advanced to third base on a sacrifice bunt and scored on Tara Oltmann's RBI groundout to second base.
 
Texas State (29-23) manufactured another run in the bottom of the fourth. ArieAnn Bell drew a leadoff walk, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on Samara Lagway's RBI single to center field.
 
With one out in the bottom of the fifth, Christiana McDowell singled through the right side of the infield, stole second and came home for the Bobcats' final run of the game on Hailey MacKay's RBI single to right field.
 
The Bobcats outhit ULM, 5-2. The Warhawks got a one-out single from Jaclyn Kresta with a runner on in the fourth and a two-out single to right field from Megan Shaw in the seventh.
 
Williams, who went 1.2 innings and allowed one run on two hits along with a walk, took the loss for ULM. Jessie Watts tossed 4.1 innings in relief, permitting two runs on three hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
 
The Warhawks will face the loser of Game 5 between No. 6-seed Coastal Carolina and No. 2-seed Troy (Thursday at 10 a.m.) in an elimination contest on Thursday, May 9 at 3 p.m.
