Warhawks Fight to Draw at Southeastern

HAMMOND, La. – ULM  (0-1-1) traveled to Southeastern Louisiana (0-1-1) on Sunday and battled through two overtimes to end the game in a tie, 1-1.

"We showed a lot of heart tonight," head coach Keyton Wheelock said. "It wasn't always pretty, but they had grit and fought the entire game."

ULM started the pace out quickly with a shot by Camryn Ciaramella that was saved by Nadine Maher two minutes into the game. Southeastern answered with a shot five minutes later by Mya Guillory that went wide right.

At the nine minute mark, Guillory took another shot that was saved by Angel Hailey.

21 minutes into the game, the Warhawks found the back of the goal when Taylor Altieri scored off of a beautiful assist by McKenzie Rizqi. ULM took the lead, 1-0.

"Rizqi had a fantastic game. Her delivery to Taylor is what we have been looking for. And Taylor was very clinical on her finish," Wheelock said.

Seconds later, Ciaramella raced down the field and took another shot that was again saved by Maher.

ULM kept up the attack all the way until halftime and went into the half with the lead.

Southeastern turned up the pressure in the second half with back-to-back shots by Brogan Bernadas and Paityn Bretzer, but neither of the shots could find the net.

However, the Lions were able to score at the 69 minute mark with a pass from Bretzer to Guillory, who took the shot to score. Southeastern tied the game up, 1-1.

Southeastern tried to end the game at the end of regulation with shots by Amber Marinero and Guillory, but both shots missed.

The two teams stayed tied at one going into overtime.

The Lions took control in the first overtime that started with a corner kick three minutes in. Their momentum was briefly halted by a yellow card on Megan Gordon, but Ellie Williams took a shot one minute later that went over the goal. Defensively, Alexiss Trudeau led the Warhawks to hold on and force a second overtime.

"Lexi Trudeau had an amazing weekend and has settled into the back line very nicely in a short period of time," Wheelock said.

49 seconds into the second overtime, Ciaramella took her fourth and final shot of the game, which was again saved by Maher. Neither team got close again and time expired, ending the game in a draw, 1-1.
