SAN MARCOS, Texas - The ULM Warhawks wrapped up their Texas road trip Sunday with a 3-0 loss at Texas State.
"It's not the outcome we wanted today, but definitely a step forward for our team," head coach Charlie Olson said.
Kate Blasingame started set one off for the Warhawks (9-7, 0-2 Sun Belt) with a kill to give ULM its first point of the game. A couple of points later, Emily DeWalt would give the Bobcats (10-6, 2-0 Sun Belt) a commanding lead at 6-2. Texas State would then go on to score six unanswered points minutes later. Ina Gosen attempted to turn the tide back in favor of the Warhawks with a kill, but Courtney Heiser nailed a kill to give the Bobcats a 25-13 set one win.
Gosen put the ULM on the board first in the second set. After Texas State fought back, Mikaela Worley gained a kill to tie the set at four. The Bobcats again scored six unanswered points and back-to-back kills by Cheyenne Huskey helped Texas State pull away more. The Bobcats went on to win set two, 25-17.
"We spread the ball around very well offensively and served extremely aggressive," Olson said.
McKinley Thiede earned a service ace to start set three for ULM. Minutes later, Gosen nailed another kill to give the Warhawks a 6-4 lead. The two teams traded points with each other before Texas State scored four unanswered points to pull away. Janell Fitzgerald garnered a kill to effectively end the set. The Bobcats won set three 25-19 to win the game.
"Texas State is hosting the conference tournament this year," Olson said. "This won't be the last time we play at Strahan Arena this season."
ULM will return home for a showdown with Louisiana Tech at 6 p.m. on Tuesday in a rematch from earlier this season.
