Warhawks Drop Match to Ragin' Cajuns, 3-0

MONROE, La. – The ULM volleyball team dropped Tuesday night's match to the Ragin' Cajuns, 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-19), at Fant-Ewing Coliseum. was set ablaze in their 3-0 loss (25-14, 25-22, 25-19) to the rival Ragin' Cajuns Tuesday night at Fant-Ewing Coliseum. "Our plan was to limit their offense, which we did," head coach Charlie Olson said. "The problem is they took full advantage of us in the middle."

A four-point scoring run put the Cajuns (11-4 overall, 6-1 Sun Belt Conference) out ahead to start set one. Late in the set, a kill from freshman Avery Cole brought the Warhawks (5-17, 1-6) within five as they trailed 18-13. The Cajuns scored seven of the last eight points to go up 1-0 in the contest by winning the set 25-14.

ULM's offense showed up in the second set. After trailing by just one point six different times in the beginning of the set, ULM tied the Cajuns at 10. Junior Darby Fisher put the Warhawks in the lead at 13-12. The Cajuns broke away with a 6-1 run over the Warhawks to extend the lead to 20-15 and force a ULM timeout. A kill from the Cajuns sealed the set 25-22.

In similar fashion, the two teams went through numerous ties and one-point leads in the third set. Midway through the set, the Cajuns reached a three-point lead over ULM at 12-9. They staved off ULM's attempt at a comeback by never letting the Warhawks get within three points for the remainder of the set. ULM had a late three point run, capped off by a kill from junior Hailey Hughes, to close the gap to just three points again, 21-18. The Cajuns closed out the set and the match 25-19.

Cole and freshman Phoebe Stigen led ULM with eight kills each. Freshman Kailey Friedrich handed out 15 assists. Freshman Kaitlin Davis and junior Madeline Hogan tallied up 11 digs.

"We're at that part of the season where it's a grind—we play five games in nine days coming up," Olson said.

ULM travels to Conway, South Carolina, to face Coastal Carolina at 6 p.m. Friday.
