JONESBORO, Ark. – The ULM volleyball team closed out its trip to Arkansas with a 3-0 loss (25-19, 27-25, 25-15) to Arkansas State Saturday night at First National Bank Arena.
A-State's blocking effort lifted them past the Warhawks as they finished with 17 blocks.
Much of set one went the Warhawks' way. After trailing briefly at the start, 4-1, ULM overcame the early deficit and took a 5-4 lead. The Warhawks extended their lead out to 9-6 before the Red Wolves cut the margin down. A-State found the lead for the second time in the contest at 17-16. Kills from senior Cali Assaley and freshman Avery Cole briefly staved off set point, but the Red Wolves closed out the set, 25-19.
The Red Wolves took the initial lead in set two, but ULM went ahead 3-1. Five straight Warhawk errors put A-State back into the lead at 8-6. The Warhawks came alive toward the end of the set. Three consecutive kills from Assaley gave ULM the lead, 24-23. However, A-State scored three straight points to win set two, 27-25.
ULM scored the first three points of the third set. The Red Wolves pounced on the lead at 11-10. A 6-0 run closed out the match with A-State on top in the set, 25-15.
Assaley finished the game with 15 kills and 15 digs. Junior Mariana Volponi e Giordan dished out 30 assists.
ULM heads to Lafayette to visit the Ragin' Cajuns on Saturday.
