LAFAYETTE, La. – The ULM volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-13) to the Ragin' Cajuns who cooked up their second 3-0 victory over ULM this season.
The ULM offense stalled with just 28 total kills while three Cajuns compiled double-digit kills.
After falling behind early in the first set, ULM tied the contest 4-4 with two kills from the Warhawks. The ULM offensive struggled to put together a scoring run until senior
Cali Assaley delivered back-to-back kills to bring the score to 16-11 with the Cajuns still leading. Another scoring burst came late for the Warhawks who cut the Cajun lead down to 23-17. The Cajuns quickly closed out the set, 25-17.
Two early errors by the Cajuns in set two gave ULM a 2-0 lead. The Warhawks earned their third lead of the contest with a five-score run, including a kill and an ace by freshman
Phoebe Stigen. A six-score run from the Cajuns put them in the lead for the remainder of the contest. ULM held off the Cajuns' set point briefly with two kills from Stigen to close the gap to 24-22, but the Cajuns found the final score they needed to win set two, 25-22.
The Cajuns were in full control of the third set. The Warhawks trailed by one as they sliced into the Cajun lead with two kills from Assaley. Junior
Darby Fisher brought the Warhawks within a single score with her second ace of the contest at 6-5. Electric scoring by the Cajuns quickly doubled their lead over ULM as they trailed 22-11. Two late Cajun errors cut the margin down slightly but not enough to change the final set score of 25-13.
Assaley led ULM with nine kills and 11 digs. Junior
Mariana Volponi e Giordan recorded 10 assists for the Warhawks.
ULM closes out their regular season next weekend with two home matchups. ULM hosts Texas State at 6 p.m. Friday and UT Arlington at 11 a.m. Sunday.
